MINTROAD SAW MILLS (PTY) LTD. was established in 1945, operating from rented premises in Fordsburg, Johannesburg serving mainly the mining industry. In 1952 land was purchased in Robertsham, Johannesburg. By this point the building industry became the predominant clientele selling mainly building props and structural timber. CCA treated poles became popular in the 1970's and Mintroad Saw Mills became a major supplier into this market. In 1987 Mintroad installed it's first CCA treatment plant. In 1990 Mintroad bought it's main local competitor Taylor and Mitchell and moved all it's production facilities to Alrode, Alberton. Mintroad currently operates 2 CCA, 1 Creosote, 1 Flambor and 1 Thatchbor treatment plants. The sawmill division specializes in the slabbing of Eucalyptus poles as well as comprehensive equipment for the sawing of Pine logs. Mintroad also runs a progressive timber drying kiln with a capacity in excess of 500 m3 of 25mm thick sawn pine per month. The drying of hardwoods reduces the capacity  according to drying schedules at lower temperatures.

MINTROAD SAW MILLS serves the building and civil engineering industries, road building, thatching, crating and pallet industry as well as the garden and outdoor decorative timber industries in South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland and Lesotho as well as exports to USA, Britain and other European countries. Raw material is also procured from Mozambique and Zimbabwe. 

MINTROAD SAW MILLS is a member of SA Chamber of Business, SA Wood Preservers Association and is active on SA Bureau of Standards Committees.
